ST. LOUIS – Illinois State soccer redshirt senior Aryn Newsom has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Goalkeeper of the Week. Newsom is coming off a huge 1-0 shutout over conference-rival Evansville that put the Redbirds in the driver's seat for the MVC.
Newsom has quietly put together a solid senior campaign. She allowed two goals on 8 SOG this week against Milwaukee, but the shutout against Evansville was her fifth of the season. Anything that came her way was saved on Saturday and she has lowered her goals against average to 1.41.
This season she broke the program record for wins (40) and career shutouts (11). She is edging closer to the all-time saves record as well with 282. The program record is 341.
The Redbirds travel to Loyola Saturday for a 7 p.m. kickoff against the Ramblers. A live audio broadcast can be heard on GoRedbirds.com.
