Tejada Named Top Drawer Soccer's National Player of the Week

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State soccer forward Rachel Tejada thoroughly dominated her final Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. For her efforts, she has been recognized by Top Drawer Soccer as the National Player of the Week.

Tejada netted five goals over two games in the MVC Tournament, leading the Redbirds to their fourth-straight tournament title and sixth overall NCAA Tournament appearance. In the semifinals against Missouri State, Tejada racked up four goals, which tied to program record for a single game.

She added another goal in the championship against Evansville, which brings her career totals to 72 goals and 41 assists. For the season, Tejada ranks sixth in the nation for goals scored, fourth for points and fifth for points per game.

Following the championship match, Tejada was named the MVC Tournament MVP. Tejada and the Redbirds will now face South Florida in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday at 6 p.m. CST. ISU became the first Valley team to ever win a tournament game when they defeated Louisville on penalty kicks last season.
