Tejada Named MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week

ST LOUIS – Rachel Tejada, a senior forward for the Illinois State women's soccer team, has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the period of Nov. 10-16, MVC Commissioner Doug Elgin announced Wednesday.

Tejada, a native of Troy, Illinois, led the Illinois State soccer team to its second NCAA Tournament victory in program history with two goals and an assist in

a 3-2 win over South Florida on Nov. 15. Tejada's second goal was the game-winner and pushed the Redbirds into the second round. She now has 20 goals and 11 assists this season. With a career total of 190 points, the four-time MVC Player of the Year moved into 25th all-time among Division I women's soccer players in career points.

A standout in the classroom as well, Tejada carries a 3.41 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) in biological sciences.

MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week candidates must carry a cumulative GPA of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution, and be at least a sophomore in academic standing. Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes are evaluated on their athletic performance over the previous week.
