Illinois State to Host 2014 MVC Women's Soccer Championship

Adelaide Street Field has served as the home of Redbird women's soccer since the program began in 1996.

ST. LOUIS - For the first time in program history, Illinois State will host the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Soccer Championship at Adelaide Street Field, Nov. 7-9, 2014. After winning three-straight MVC tournament titles, the Redbirds have an opportunity to defend their home field during this season's Valley Championship.

The Illinois State Athletics Department, which hosted three MVC championships in 2013-14, was awarded the 2014 MVC Women's Soccer Championship based on ISU's bid for the annual tournament.

"We are extremely pleased to be chosen as the host of the 2014 MVC Women's Soccer Championship," Illinois State Associate Athletics Director for Internal Operations Peyton Deterding said. "This marks the first time that ISU will serve in this capacity, and we're positive that recent upgrades to the playing surface and facility will enable us to host a first-class championship."

The top six teams (of seven) advance to the MVC Women's Soccer Championship, and the top two seeds receive a bye in the first round. First-round games are on campus sites on Sunday, Nov. 2.

The semifinals will then take place Friday, Nov. 7 at Adelaide Street Field, and the championship is Sunday, Nov. 9. The winner of the tournament receives an automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA Women's Soccer Championship.

Last season, Illinois State won the tournament and represented the MVC in the NCAAs, becoming the first-ever Valley team to advance to the second round.

Adelaide Street Field has served as the home of Redbird women's soccer since the program began in 1996.
