NORMAL, Ill. - For the second time this season, Illinois State soccer seniors, Rachel Tejada and Gabbi McArtor have been named the Missouri Valley Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively. The awards come after a 2-0 defeat of Missouri State last Sunday.
Tejada's goal streak continued as she lit up the scoreboard twice Sunday against Missouri State. Tejada's performance led to a 2-0 ISU victory and she now leads the conference in nearly every major offensive statistical category. Her two goals give her nine on the season and she has scored in five-straight games. No other player in the conference scored multiple goals in MVC play last weekend.Â
McArtor and the ISU defensive unit put together another shutout Sunday against Missouri State. It's the fourth shutout of the season for ISU and McArtor played a large role in the team's success. She routinely stopped attacks from Missouri State before the Bears could reach the penalty box and McArtor helped keep MSU to just five shots and only two shots on goal.
ISU is in Milwaukee to face the University of Milwaukee Wednesday evening. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and a live broadcast can be heard on GoRedbirds.com.
