ST. LOUIS – Illinois State soccer defensive back Sara Stankoskey has been named as one of 10 honorees for the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Good Neighbor Award as announced by MVC commissioner Doug Elgin.
Stankoskey carries a 3.77 overall grade point average in exercise science and has been named to the AFNI Honor Roll for four semesters. She was a recipient of the MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award in 2013-14 and 2014-15. In addition, Stankoskey has served as the team SAAC representative and MVC Female SAAC representative this season.
Stankoskey has also made volunteering a priority, serving as a Recess Buddy and volunteering for Reggie's Kids Club. She has also given her time to the Blair House where she played board games with senior citizens and participated in the Metcalf 2015 School Carnival. Stankoskey has also volunteered for the Midwest Food Bank and as a Special Education Bowling Helper.
In order to be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be in good academic standing, must demonstrate good citizenship through good sportsmanship and significant community service, and must participate in a sport, during the season of recognition. The Valley will recognize 10 student-athletes three times annually (fall, winter, spring), for a total of 30 honorees. Institutions select their State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award honorees.
Stankoskey and the Redbirds will be at Indiana State Thursday night to close out the regular season versus the Sycamores at 6 p.m. CT.
