NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State soccer team is entering the thick of its Missouri Valley Conference schedule with four matches remaining in the regular season. The Redbirds will travel to Northern Iowa Saturday in hopes of moving above .500 in conference play for the first time this season.
ISU defeated Loyola, 2-1, Sept. 30 for its first Valley win of the season and has not played a match since suffering a 1-0 loss to Oklahoma Oct. 2. The seven-day break between games is the longest of the season for the Redbirds.
UNI and Illinois State are currently tied at 1-1 in the MVC standings, while Drake leads the conference at 2-0.
ISU is led by Lauren Koehl. Koehl has a team-high four goals this season and has netted two goals in conference play. Ali Farkos leads the team in assists with three and is ranked in the top ten in points within the MVC.
Defensive back Abby Van Deventer was named the MVC Defensive Player of the Week for her performance last week. It was the second time Van Deventer earned the award this season.
Kickoff Saturday is set for 7 p.m. at the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex.
Series History
This is the 16th all-time meeting between Illinois State and Northern Iowa. ISU holds a 12-3 advantage and has won the last two games. Last season, the Redbirds won 3-1 in Normal. ISU has never lost at Northern Iowa.
