NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State soccer has added junior college transfer Brianne Richards, head coach Eric Golz announced Tuesday. Richards comes to ISU from Iowa Western Community College and will be eligible for the 2015 season.
"We are excited that Bri has decided to join the Redbird soccer family," said Golz. "She has been an incredibly successful student-athlete at Iowa Western, having earned All-American honors both as student and as a player. She has a track record of competing for championships and is a proven goal-scorer, both of which we expect her to do for us here at Illinois State. She is a valuable addition that will add to our program both on and off of the field."
Richards is a junior from Papillion, Nebraska, and played under ISU assistant coach Brad Silvey at Iowa Western. As a member of the Reivers, Richards experienced plenty of success. The Reivers were the national champions in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) during Richards' freshman campaign and then finished as national runners-up her sophomore year.
Richards totaled 53 points in 2013 and 59 points in 2014. As a freshman, Richards was named to the National Soccer Coaches' Association of America (NSCAA) All-America First Team and was named an Honorable Mention selection in 2014.
Richards has also been recognized for her work in the classroom, earning NSCAA Academic All-America Second Team honors in 2014. The junior plans to major in communication at Illinois State.
