Redbirds Travel to Loyola for Conference Matchup

NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State soccer team (7-5-2, 1-0-1 MVC) will travel to Chicago to face Missouri Valley Conference foe Loyola (4-7-2, 2-0-0) Wednesday at Loyola Soccer Park at 7 p.m. ISU remains unbeaten in its last seven matches, with five wins and two draws.

Last Time Out
The Illinois State soccer team drew to Missouri State, 1-1, in double overtime Sunday afternoon at Adelaide Street Field. ISU came out strong in the first half, as the Redbirds challenged Missouri State's Evan Stamp in the first minute of play. Freshman Mikayla Unger played a through ball to senior Lauren Koehl, as Koehl ripped a shot off that just skipped past the frame and went wide.

Junior Kelli Zickert put the Redbirds on the scoreboard in the 18th minute, as she scored off a through ball from sophomore Megan Kozlow making the score 1-0. The difference in the match came in the 28th minute when Missouri State's Mary Disidore scored the equalizer, as she cut two ISU defenders and ripped the ball on the ground to the right corner.

Overall, the Redbirds finished with a 35-8 advantage in shots, with 11 on goal, forcing Stamp to make 10 saves. ISU tallied seven corner kicks compared to MSU's four. Freshman keeper Haley Smith grabbed two saves between the pipes.

What You Need to Know: Loyola is coming off a thrilling 1-0 win over conference foe Evansville this past Sunday, giving the Ramblers their third-consecutive shutout, and improves their record to 2-0-0 in conference play. Junior Katie Grall and senior Ciara Murray lead the Ramblers in scoring with three goals each, while Grall leads the team in assists, with five. Sophomore Cassidy Lentz and junior Maddie Ford have tallied 34 and 38 saves between the pipes on the season so far. Loyola averages 1.31 goals per game compared to ISU's 2.29 with 20 goals-against on the season so far while ISU has 10.

The Redbirds return to action Saturday, Oct. 15, when they travel to Des Moines, Iowa, to take on conference foe Drake at 7 p.m. at Cownie Soccer Complex.
