NORMAL, Ill. – Sophomore goalkeeper Haley Smith earned Defensive Player of the Week following standout performances against Saint Louis and Illinois.
On Friday, Smith reached a career-high 11 saves in the 1-0 loss at Saint Louis and quickly bounced back Sunday with her first shutout of the 2017 season. The Redbirds defeated Illinois, 2-0, for the first time since 2004. Smith tallied five saves in the match.
Smith and the Redbirds return to action Friday, September 1 when they travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to face Duquesne on Friday and Pitt on Sunday. This will be the first time playing either team in program history. ISU kicks off against Duquesne at 6 p.m. on Friday and Pitt at 12 p.m. on Sunday, September 3.
