NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State swimming and diving team will travel to Carbondale, Illinois, this weekend, facing in-state rivals Southern Illinois and Illinois. The meet will be held at Shea Natatorium and is set to start at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
"We are looking forward to a very competitive meet against two good opponents," head swimming coach Scott Cameron said. "Having the opportunity to swim against a Big Ten school and one of the best teams in our conference will be a good measure of where we are, and what we still need to work on. The team has been looking great this week in practice, and we are expecting some nice swims this weekend."
"We highlight this meet every year, due to the competition, and the key time in the season," head diving coach Phil Hoffmann added. "Both teams have elite level divers and it will be a great challenge for our divers. It should help solidify our goals and expectations for the rest of the season."
This meet marks the first double dual of the season for the Redbirds. Illinois State has turned 39 top-three performances at this meet against the Salukis and Illini, dating back to the 2014-15 campaign. Over the last four trips to this particular dual, the Redbirds have picked up a win over both opposing programs.
Illinois State returns to the pool, and Bloomington-Normal area, next weekend, when it takes on Lewis and cross-town opponent Illinois Wesleyan. The double dual is set for Friday, Oct. 26, at 5 p.m. at Fort Natatorium.
