Junior midfielder Kate Del Fava is one of two athletes featured in this week's Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Spotlight, presented by Enterprise Bank and Trust Company, the conference announced Wednesday, Oct. 3. Marius Kullmann of the Loyola's men's soccer team was the other athlete to be honored.
To qualify for the MVC Scholar-Athlete Spotlight, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. Redshirt freshmen and junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes are evaluated on their campus involvement and community service.
Del Fava maintains a perfect 4.0 grade-point average as a double major in Animal Science and Pre-Veterinary Medicine. She is no stranger to MVC honors, having earned All-MVC first team and scholar athlete honors in her sophomore season, in addition to being named to the All-MVC tournament team and freshman team in 2016. Del Fava has made the MVC Honor Roll and the MVC Commissioner's List each year of her career.
She volunteers weekly at an animal shelter and has frequently been involved in many different groups in the Bloomington-Normal community. Del Fava is also a representative on Illinois State's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Del Fava has played in every match since arriving on campus and has started in 55 of 57 games. She has a team-high of four goals this season and totals seven goals and five assists in her career.
Redbird soccer is back in action on Sunday, Oct. 7, as they host Missouri Valley opponent Valparaiso at home. Kickoff at Adelaide Street Field is at 1 p.m. The match will serve as Senior Day, with seniors Kiley Czerwinski and Angel Krell being honored before the contest in a pre-game ceremony. Admission is free!
