Women’s Tennis Finish Second Day of ITA Regional

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Illinois State women's tennis team wrapped up the second day of play at Michigan State at the ITA Midwest Regionals. The squad went 2-2 in doubles play and 0-1 in singles play.

Both doubles squads won their respective matches, with the tandem of Tara Damnjanovic and Jelena Vujicic taking down Bowling Green's Tavpash/Bettinelli 8-6, and the pair of Laura Fitzgerald and Natalia Bravo defeating Bowling Green's Sasaki/Kapitanova 8-5.

"Laura and I played really well today," said Bravo. "Our first win gave us a confidence boost and we competed hard against the tough Ohio State team and played really good points. For the first time playing together, it was a great tourney. We just need to play more together to get better."

The two teams fell in their next matches to seeded opponents. Fitzgerald also fell in her qualifying singles match, but will play in the main draw tomorrow still.

"Both teams played well," commented ISU Head Coach Maja Kovacek about the matches today. "They had great energy and played aggressively. Those second-round losses were tough because we got behind early and that made it really difficult to come back against these good teams. Laura and Nat were a few points short in the end but I'm really excited about how well they are playing together."

The Redbirds will be back in action tomorrow and matches will be livestreamed at https://web.playsight.com/facility/michigan-state-university/home with results and brackets being updated throughout the day.
