Senior Kate Del Fava of the Illinois State women's soccer team was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District® First Team, as announced by CoSIDA on Thursday. This honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Del Fava has started every match this season for the Redbirds as a midfielder, leading the Valley in several offensive categories including goals scored (15), total points (34) and game-winning goals (6).
The Kenosha, Wisconsin, native has a 4.0 cumulative grade point average while double majoring in Pre-Veterinarian Medicine and Animal Science. Del Fava was featured in the MVC Scholar-Athlete Spotlight this week, is one of 10 national finalists for the Senior CLASS Award and is an Illinois State University Bone Scholar, the highest honor that can be bestowed on undergraduate students.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees will advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third team (if necessary) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
