Illinois State soccer senior Kate Del Fava was selected in nationwide balloting as a Second-Team Senior CLASS Award® All-American in NCAA Division I women's soccer.
Del Fava was previously announced as one of 10 finalists for the award earlier this season in October. The award, chosen by a vote of Division I women's soccer coaches, national soccer media and fans, annually recognizes the most outstanding senior student-athletes in DI women's soccer. In order to be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as a senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: classroom, community, character and competition.
The Kenosha, Wisconsin, native, has maintained a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade-point average throughout her collegiate career, while majoring in Pre-Veterinarian Medicine and Animal Science. Excelling both on the field and in the class room, Del Fava led the Missouri Valley Conference this season in goals (17), points (39) and game-winning goals. Additionally, the senior swept the MVC Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards.
Earlier today, Del Fava was named the 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-America Team Member of the Year. She is the first Redbird student-athlete in school history to receive this honor.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award was established in 2001 and focuses on the total student-athlete, encouraging students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
