CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Senior Jordyn Bruce shined on day one of the Jack Jennett Open, winning the pentathlon with a personal-best 3,638 points on Thursday, inside the UNI Dome.
Competing in her first pentathlon of her senior campaign, Bruce finished first in the final event of the day to move up from second to first. In the final event, the 800-meter run, the Eagle River, Alaska native, recorded a time of 2:22.78, to cross the finish line nearly six seconds ahead of the next closest runner.
In addition to her first-place finish in the 800, Bruce finished second in the 60-meter hurdles and the high jump, third in the shot put and fifth in the long jump to total 3,638 points, which rank her fourth all-time on ISU's top-10 list.
Junior Ashlee Stieler was the next Redbird in the pentathlon standings, placing fourth with 3,251 points. She posted a first-place finish in the shot put, a t-second-place finish in the high jump, a third-place finish in the long jump, a fourth-place finish in the 800m and a seventh-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles.
Rounding on the standings for the Redbirds were freshman Zofia LeHew, senior Olivia Rossman and junior Parker Francisco who finished seventh, ninth and 10th, respectively.
Through four events in the men's heptathlon, the Redbirds are currently led by sophomore Caleb Miedema, who sits in first after winning the last two events (shot put and high jump) on day one. His win in the shot put with a mark of 12.86 meters lifted him three spots from fourth to first place.
Senior Jordan Wilkerson and freshmen JT Lowder and Brian Brown sit in third, sixth and seventh after the four events on day one.
The four Redbird men return to action tomorrow, Jan. 24 beginning with the 60-meter hurdles at 10 a.m. The pole vault and 1,000-meter run will follow at 10:40 a.m. and 1 p.m., inside the UNI Dome.
