NORMAL, Ill. – Wednesday's match at the Bloomington Tennis & Turf complex will be the last one at home for the Illinois State women's tennis team until April, so the Redbirds are looking to make it count and extend their winning streak to five matches in a row when they host in-state foe Western Illinois.
"It's a quick turnaround for us from the weekend matches, but we're playing better and better," ISU head coach Maja Kovacek said. Â "We are looking to keep the momentum going we gained over the last couple weeks into this match with Western Illinois and our two weekend matches in Chicago."
Winners of four-straight matches, the Redbirds won at Dayton and DePauw last weekend to improve to 6-4 on the season. ISU was led by newcomer Tijana Zlatanovic, who continued the strong start to her debut collegiate campaign with a pair of wins at the No. 1 spot for the Redbirds. With the two victories, Zlatanovic improved to 7-2 on the season, with a 6-2 mark at the No. 1 spot for the Redbirds. She also teamed with Tara Damnjanovic two win a pair of doubles matches, as the duo has now won their last three matches in a row.
Western Illinois will be playing just its third match this spring when they face off against ISU. WIU dropped its season opener at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, but picked up a Valentine's Day 7-0 sweep over St. Francis (Ill.) to improve to 1-1 on the year and give head coach Shawn Hyden his first win at WIU.Â
