Evansville, Eastern Illinois up next for Illinois State

Normal, Ill. - Illinois State Swimming and Dive is back in action for the first time in two weeks this weekend as the Redbirds head to Evansville for a double-dual with the Purple Aces and Eastern Illinois Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. at Deaconess Aquatic Center. Southern Indiana is also set to be in competition Saturday in Evansville, but will only bring diving entries

LAST TIME OUT 

The Redbirds traveled to Chicago, Ill. to take on MVC foes UNI, Indiana State and UIC in the MVC Showcase-North Oct. 21-22. 

Illinois State secured three wins en-route to a second-place finish at the meet. Olivia Gonder took home first in the 200-yard freestyle with a 1:54.17, which bested her time of 1:55.90 from Oct. 14 vs Illinois and Southern Illinois. Freshman Giulia Basco secured Illinois State's other win on the weekend with her first-place time of 2:05.74 in the 200-yard butterfly. 

Diver Eva Reyes posted a 287.15 in the 1M dive, which was good for the best overall score in that event and her second-best 1M score this season. (Behind only 288.9 Oct. 8 vs McKendree). 

PRESEASON POLL

The Redbirds were tabbed second in the Preseason MVC Coaches poll, which was announced by the league office Friday. 

Illinois State was picked ahead of Southern Illinois (third), Marshall (fourth), Indiana State (fifth), UNI (sixth), UIC (seventh), Little Rock (eighth), Evansville (ninth), and Valparaiso (tenth). The Sycamores earned the lone first-place vote not awarded to preseason favorite Missouri State. 

UP NEXT 

The Redbirds travel to West Lafayette, Ind. for their final competition of 2022 at the Purdue Invite Nov. 16-18.
