ST. LOUIS – For the second week in a row, and Illinois State doubles team has taken home conference weekly honors as the duo of Penelope Abreu and Alexandra Abyasova were named the Missouri Valley Conference Doubles Team of the Week on Tuesday by the league office.
Abreu and Abyasova came up big for the Redbirds in their matchup with the Illini last Sunday in Urbana, Illinois. The duo combined to win the lone match for ISU against Illinois with a 6-3 win at the No. 2 spot. With the victory, the duo is now 2-0 this spring when teaming together.
The Redbirds return to action on Sunday, Feb. 13, when they travel to Chicago to take on UIC at 1 p.m.
