NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Illinois State's Anderson Devonish posted a second-place finish in the men's 200-meter with a time of 21.36, and captured a new indoor personal-best. Devonish will look to have the same success tomorrow as he competes in the men's 400-meter dash and the 4x400-meter relay.
"The first day was highlighted by Andy Devonish's 200-meter finish," Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Jeff Bovee said. "He came out and won his heat by beating a couple of Missouri Valley foes. It was great for Andy to cap the evening off with a strong effort. He will be coming back tomorrow to run the 400-meter and the 4x400, so he has a busy weekend."
Other strong performances came from Shandall Thomas as he captured a fourth-place finish in the men's 60-meter will a time of 6.81. Dion Hooker posted a solid performance in the 60-meter as he posted a time of 6.92 and placed 14th overall. Thomas and Hooker will advance to the men's 60-meter semi-final tomorrow afternoon.
On the women's side, Rayanne Wright posted a personal-best in the women's 600-meter will a time of 1:34.19. Freshman Kaitlyn Pearson had an impressive finish in the women's 200-meter as she won her heat will a time of 24.83.
"Kaitlyn Pearson had a nice improvement in the women's 200," said Bovee. "For a freshman, she is having quite a season and I am really please will the progress she is making. Rayanne Wright had a nice competitive effort in the women's 600-meter. It was great having Shandell back in the men's 60-meter dash.
The Meyo Invite will resume Saturday morning with the women's 3,000-meter set to start at 9:45 a.m.
