Illinois State soccer senior Kate Del Fava was named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America Third Team, as announced by the organization late last week.
This is the third All-American accolade Del Fava has received related to academics for the 2019 season, having also been named a Senior CLASS Award All-American and a CoSIDA Academic All-American for the second year in a row. Del Fava is the only Illinois State student-athlete in history to ever headline a CoSIDA Academic All-America Team, as she was also announced as the 2019 Academic All-America Team Member of the Year.
The Kenosha, Wisconsin, native, maintained a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade-point average throughout her collegiate career, while majoring in Pre-Veterinarian Medicine and Animal Science. Excelling both on the field and in the class room, Del Fava led the Missouri Valley Conference this season in goals (17), points (39) and game-winning goals. Additionally, the senior swept the MVC Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards.
To be considered for the award, student-athletes must have at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) throughout her career, start more than 50 percent of all games and be an elite player as supported by playing honors (i.e. all-conference) and be a junior or above in athletic standing. Those meeting this criterion were evaluated by the committee who reviewed both the academic and athletic accomplishments of the nominees.
