Redbirds Drop First Of Two Weekend Road Matches

TULSA, Okla. – Illinois State's Mike Agee recorded the first win of his ISU career Friday afternoon against Tulsa, however the Golden Hurricane were too much for the Redbirds as they picked up a 6-1 win.

"I thought we played some good doubles today. We got off to a slow start, but when the guys settled down a bit, we definitely gave ourselves a chance to win that point," ISU head coach Mark Klysner said. "Singles was a battle on each court and where some courts we were a little overmatched, we competed hard on the others and got a great win at the No. 5 spot as Mike got his first singles win as a Redbird."

The team of Nam Pham and Min-Chieh Chiu took down the duo of Ezequiel Santalla and Daniel Siddall, 6-3, at the No. 2 doubles spot, but the Hurricane captured the point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 slots. In singles, Tulsa took five of the six matches to secure the victory, but Agee shined in his match at the No. 5 spot against Tulsa's Boriss Kamdem. After dropping the first set, 4-6, Agee battled back to take the second set, 6-2, before controlling the third-set tiebreaker (10-4) to win the match.
 
ISU continues its weekend road swing Saturday, when the Redbirds travel to Fayetteville, Ark., to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks at the Dills Indoor Tennis Center. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
