NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State Track & Field will be represented by 18 student-athletes at the NCAA West Preliminary Round as announced by the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track & Field and Cross Country Committee on Thursday.
In order to qualify for the NCAA West Preliminary Round, student-athletes must rank among the top-48 in their respective events. The 18 Redbirds advancing will compete for a chance to move on to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Sacramento State will host the NCAA West Prelims from Wednesday, May 24 through Saturday, May 27 at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento, California. The men will compete on Wednesday and Friday, while the women will compete on Thursday and Saturday.
Athletes with the top 12 times/marks at both the East and West Preliminary Rounds sites will qualify for the NCAA Championships from June 7-10 in Austin, Texas.
QUALIFIERS
The following Illinois State student-athletes have qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary Round:
- Amiri Buchanan, hammer & shot put
- Claire Fuhlhage, 3000m steeplechase
- Hassy Fashina-Bombata, 100m hurdles & 200m
- Rachel Hickey, 800m
- Melissa Parrella, long jump
- Jaylin Holmes, 400m hurdles
- Joe Boyer, shot put
- Kayla Perry, 400m hurdles
- Macy Byer, discus
- Mattison Plummer, 3000m steeplechase
- Mye'Joi Williams, shot put
- Riley Wells, 800m
- Brandon Ratliff, 110m hurdles
- Taylor Kesner, discus & javelin
- Zofia LeHew, javelin
Along with the 15 student athletes listed above, the Illinois State women's 4x100m relay team of Lindsey Miller, Hassy Fashina-Bombata, Madison Saunders, and Arianna Walker also qualify for competition next week.
