A four-year letterwinner in baseball ... a co-captain and all-conference pick for two years ... led Illinois State in batting during his junior year with a .353 average ... played semipro baseball at Rapid City, S.D., in the Basin League, prior to his senior season ...had a .336 average and 24 RBI in his senior season ... finished with a 113-56 record during a 10-year stint as baseball coach at Bradley-Bourbonnais High School and a 111-30 total as basketball coach at Bloomington High School (1974-1979) ... served as a high school basketball official, and baseball and softball umpire ... also taught at Bloomington and was part of the WJBC radio basketball broadcast team.
