Track and Field Concludes Regular Season at Champaign

RESULTS

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois State men and women's track and field teams concluded their regular indoor season at the Orange and Blue Open host by University of Illinois in Champaign, Illinois. The Redbirds had a spectacular day, as both teams had multiple event winners and personal-best performances.

Michael Jopes started the winning streak off in the men's 400-meter dash, as he won the event with a time of 50.25.

In the men's 600-meter run Kyle Hatton tallied another win for the Redbirds with a time of 1:22.73.

Jack Anstey was the first colligate finisher in the men's mile run with an impressive time at 4:08.75, which is ranked third in the Missouri Valley.

On the women's side, Molly Krawczykowski captured a personal-best performance in the 800-meter run at a time of 2:14.48. Her fellow teammates were not far behind, as Hannah Stone (2:18.00) and Nikki Hoffman (2:19.17) finished second and third, respectively.

In the mile run, Dakota Roman posted a spectacular performance as she ran sub-5 mile and finished third with a time of 4:59.77. Her time is ranked eighth in the Missouri Valley Conference. Sydney Billingsley finished fourth with a time of 5:07.85.

The distance crew continued to shine as Ashley England captured first place in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:18.71.

In the field, the women led the way in the shot put, as Morgan Keller captured first place with a toss at 15.01m (49-03.00), followed by Brandy Thomas (14.28m/46-10.25) in second and Kassie Hoyme in third, capturing a personal-best mark at a toss of 13.79m (46-10.00).

After today, Thomas and Hoyme are ranked fifth and ninth in the Valley, respectively. Keller is still sitting in third with her mark from the EIU Early Bird (15.14m (49-08.25)

Thomas also posted a first-place performance in the women's weight throw at a mark of 16.13m (52-11.00).

Amanda McClain captured first place in the women's long jump with a leap at 5.94m (19-06.00), which is leading the Valley. In the triple jump, Victoria Gruszka had a strong series as she placed third with a mark at 11.47m (37-07.75).

On the men's side, Travon Diggins finished second in the men's long jump with a mark at 6.69m (21-11.50).

Illinois State track and field return to the track next weekend, as they travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa, for the 2017 Indoor Missouri Valley Conference Championships. Follow GoRedbirds.com for more information on the championship meet later this week.
