Redbirds Wrap Up Day 3 of MVC Swimming & Diving Championships

COLUMBIA, Mo. – For the second-straight night, senior Kierston Farley-Sepe broke a Missouri Valley Conference Championship meet record, this time in the 400-yard IM, as teammates Haley Rivera and Emily Keebler joined Farley-Sepe on the podium to combine for 48 total team points in the event.

IN THE POOL

A total of 10 season best performances were turned in during the preliminary round on Friday by nine Redbirds in four different events:

  • Sarah Hein – 100-yard butterfly (57.60) – B-Final
  • Jensen Keck – 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.20) – A-Final
  • Julie Kolar – 100-yard backstroke (58.57) – C-Final
  • Tina Meyer – 100-yard backstroke (1:00.37)
  • Madyson Morse – 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.75) – A-Final
  • Lauren Naeger – 100-yard butterfly (56.97) – B-Final
  • Julia Oostman – 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.24)
  • Haley Rivera – 400-yard IM (4:26.20) – A-Final
  • Isabel Veliz – 100-yard butterfly (57.08) – B-Final, 100-yard backstroke (57.36) – B-Final

Kierston Farley-Sepe broke the MVC Championship meet record in the 400-yard IM, posting a winning time of 4:16.36 for her second gold medal of the week, while teammates Haley Rivera (4:24.72) and Emily Keebler (4:30.42) finished closely behind in fourth and sixth place, respectively. The trio combined for 48 points towards the team total. Lauren Naeger added three points in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing 14th overall, while Sarah Hein won the 100-yard butterfly C-Final with a time of 57.13. Jensen Keck (1:02.75) and Madyson Morse (1:03.20) each posted season best times in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing third and sixth, respectively.

ON THE BOARDS

For the second-straight day, Caroline Lecoeur and Kamryn Blake led the way for ISU on the boards, as the pair finished fifth and 14th, respectively, in the preliminary round. In Friday night's B-Final, Blake finished sixth overall with a score of 207.80. Lecoeur will battle in the A-Final in tomorrow's evening session of the championship.

Illinois State will conclude action on Saturday with the preliminary round beginning at 11 a.m. and finals slated for 5 p.m. More information can be found on the MVC's Championship Central page.
