CSCAA National Invitational, NCAA Diving Zones on Tap for Redbirds

NORMAL, Ill. – Members of the Illinois State swimming and diving team will return to the pool this weekend at a pair of post-season meets. Ten Redbird swimmers will travel to the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) National Invitational on the campus of Cleveland State, while a pair of divers will travel to Lexington, Kentucky, for the NCAA Zone C Championships.

A Message From the CSCAA

Based on recommendations provided by the State of Ohio, spectators will not be permitted to attend the National Invitational Championship (NIC) at Cleveland State University. Although no cases of coronavirus have been detected on the University campus, the decision to not admit spectators is a preventive effort that aims to minimize the potential for exposure.

The Championship will otherwise proceed as scheduled with competition beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 12. Spectators who had purchased tickets in advance will receive refunds through the Cleveland State box office. The meet will now be streamed online at www.cscaa.org.

Making a Splash

Seniors Kierston Farley-Sepe and Jensen Keck will wrap up their decorated ISU careers this weekend, as Farley-Sepe will battle in the 200-yard IM and 200-yard freestyle events and Keck will compete in the 100-yard breaststroke, while each will serve on a Redbird relay team.

Five freshman – Emily Keebler, Makenna Licking, Madyson Morse, Lauren Naeger and Isabel Veliz – will be making their first appearances at the national meet. Morse, and sophomore teammate Haley Rivera, will be the busiest Redbirds this weekend, each competing in a pair of individual events and two relays. Sarah Hein and Tina Meyer will join forces with Rivera and Keck in the 200-yard medley relay, while a quartet of Redbirds are also set to battle in the 400-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay.

Diving In

For the third-straight year, ISU diving standout Caroline Lecoeur will return to the NCAA Diving Zone Championships. The Lyons, France, native has finished in the top 45 in both the 1- and 3-meter events in each of the past two seasons at the post-season meet. Newcomer Kamryn Blake will join Lecoeur in the 1-meter event on Thursday at the Zone C Championships at the University of Kentucky, while Lecoeur will wrap up competition for the Redbirds on Friday in the 3-meter diving event.
