MACOMB, Ill. – The Illinois State track and field team wrapped up day two of the Lee Calhoun Memorial Invite and the Sun Angel Track Classic with solid performances from the split squads Saturday.
Anderson Devonish finished with a first-place, personal-best time in the 400-meter dash at the Sun Angel Classic. Devonish ran 46.46 in the event, finishing just ahead of BYU's Jesse White, who recorded a time of 47.29. Antonio Farley finished 12th in the 400-meter field with a time of 47.95.
Freshman JD LaFayette also represented the Redbirds well in the southwest, finishing fifth in the 800-meter open race with a personal-best time of 1:51.03. CJ Hamilton clocked a season-best 800-meter time of 1:53.15 to place 11th overall.
Women's Track
At Western Illinois, Elise Anderson finished third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.11. LaDaisha Steen-Yates, Emily Cowan and DeAsia Garret finished 6-7-8 with times of 12.34, 12.36 and 12.55, respectively. Cowan led the sprinters in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.43 to place third, while Anderson and Garrett finished fifth and seventh with times of 25.72 and 26.03, respectively.
Rayanne Wright sprinted to a 400-meter time of 57.37, finishing second in the field, while Kimi Sanden also recorded a top-five finish for the Redbirds in the 800-meter race, clocking a time of 2:18.00.
Jackie Mink led the middle distance crew with a time of 4:52.34 in the 1,500-meter race, and Molly Krawczycowski was just behind her in sixth-place with a time of 4:56.04.
Garrett, Wright, Krawczykowski and Mink finished third in the women's 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:56.21.
At Arizona State, Sarah Mussallem recorded a sixth-place finish in the women's 400-meter open. Mussallem clocked a time of 56.79.
Men's Track
Dante Hutton sprinted to a 100-meter time of 11.13 to earn a top-20 finish.
Ben Montgomery led the Redbird men in the 400-meter dash, recording a time of 50.03. David Curnock clocked a 400-meter time of 50.88, and Travis Trevizo led the Redbird group in the 800 with a time of 1:56.63. Tye Sutherland was right behind Trevizo with a time of 1:56.88.
Marcelo Burbano ran a solid 1,500-meter race, finishing with a second-place time of 4:02.10, and Dave Eckhart ran a 4:03.47 to also capture a top-five finish. Kyle Mattes and Jeff Bajema also recorded top-10 finishes in the 1,500-meter race.
Javar Cruz ran a season-best 400-meter hurdles time of 52.95 to place third overall in the field.
The foursome of Montgomery, Curnock, Sutherland and Austin Corydon ran to an eighth-place 4x400-meter relay time of 3:25.52.
At Arizona State, Lafayette, Farley, Devonish and Hamilton teamed up for the 4X400-meter relay, crossing the finish line in 3:17.42 for seventh place.
Women's Field
In the high jump, Haley Becker jumped to a personal-best mark of 1.57 meters to finish third in the field. Amanda Young also jumped to a personal-best in the pole vault, finishing fourth with a vault of 3.40 meters.
Patrice Jones led the Redbird women in the long jump with a best mark of 5.30 meters, while Kolby Hoffman finished with a mark of 5.16 meters. In the triple jump, Shelby Allen leaped to a mark of 11.14 meters.
Men's Field
Jake DeJaegher finished first in the high jump field with a best mark of 1.95 meters, while Logan Zeman notched a third-place finish.
Evan Garretson captured a fourth-place finish in the men's shot put with a best bark of 14.63 meters, while Patrick Riley recorded a season-best pole vault of 4.45 meters.
AJ Marmion was the ISU leader in the discus, tossing a best mark of 44.78 meters, and Garretson was right behind Marmion, throwing 44.28 meters.
The Redbirds will be back in action in the Kansas Relays, April 16-18, and the Illinois Twilight (April 18).
